Swine Influenza: Important Information
Wednesday 10 June 2009
Recent media reports on the Swine Flu pandemic have focused on school closures in England and the potential impact that this may have on the conduct of the June examination series.
Seven cases have now been confirmed in Northern Ireland.
At present all operations in relation to CCEA examinations are continuing unaffected. Risk management is well embedded into CCEA’s quality management systems and strategies are already in place to deal with situations that may arise. Principals have access to CCEA’s 24 Hour Examinations Helpline should they need to contact us in the event of an emergency.
We are in daily contact with the Department of Education, Department of Employment and Learning and the Public Health Agency to ensure a co-ordinated approach in anticipating and dealing with the challenges that may arise. We are also working closely with the regulators, awarding bodies and government departments in England, Scotland and Wales. A contingency plan has been agreed centrally and can be viewed here.
We will continue to monitor the situation and provide advice and assistance to schools as required.
