LOCAL COMPANY WOWS U. S. LEGAL EAGLES

An award - winning virtual reality computer system, designed and developed by the Belfast based NICLR has been given a rave review in a major American law journal, Law Technology News, whose Editor-in-Chief, Monica Bay has described the system as "awesome."

Following the review Derek Kinnen, Director of NICLR was invited to address and demonstrate the virtual reality application to the American Bar Association at its Annual Conference in London this month attended by 7000 US lawyers and their families.

Mr Kinnen commented:

We believe this system is a world first in that it’s designed to be used by anyone without IT experience to support testimony or enable them to orientate the court or enquiry to a location and their movements on the day.

Our virtual reality system, recreating the Bogside of 1971, is currently being used to help those making submissions to the Saville Inquiry into the events of Bloody Sunday. I’m delighted to say Lord Saville himself, who introduced the presentation at the conference, has described the system as "spectacular".

This latest invitation and presentation to the American Bar Association comes on the heels of the British Multimedia Association’s award to NICLR last month for new multimedia services to the public.

NICLR is a division of the Council for the Curriculum Examinations and Assessment (CCEA). They are based at the Orchard Buildings in Stranmillis College, Belfast. Set up in 1985, NICLR were the first interactive multimedia developers in Northern Ireland and amongst the first in the UK.
