TOP STUDENTS GET THEIR REWARD

Young people who achieved highest marks in last Summer’s A Level examinations will today receive official recognition of their efforts at a lunchtime reception and award ceremony hosted by Northern Ireland’s exams body, the CCEA.

Northern Ireland’s top students were joined at CCEA’s headquarters in Clarendon Dock by their families, former teachers and educationalists. Each student received a specially produced certificate marking their exceptional achievement.

Commenting on the ceremony CCEA Chief Executive Gavin Boyd said:

Today we honour some of our finest young people who have attained the highest levels of performance in CCEA GCE A level examinations. In doing so we will be recognising, not just our talented students, but also the very dedicated people who have helped them achieve so much - their teachers and their parents.

Well done to all our award winners and on behalf of CCEA I wish you success and happiness in your future careers.

Once again in Summer 2001 students taking CCEA examinations outperformed their peers in the rest of the UK. Today’s award winners are among the 27.9% of the province’s GCE examinations entry achieving an A grade, some 9% ahead of the UK figure. A truly remarkable performance.

In the New Year CCEA will be running a series of events recognising the top performers at GCSE level.
