CCEA responds to Minister’s announcement on the Review of Post-primary Education
The Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) has
responded to the announcement made earlier today by the Minister for Education,
Jane Kennedy MP, on the Review of Post-primary Education.
Chairman of CCEA Dr Alan Lennon commented:
“I am very pleased that the Minister has released the report of the working party so promptly. This report merits detailed consideration and CCEA will now work through all its implications.
We welcome the objective of “informed choice” as the basis for moving pupils from primary to post-primary education.
From the beginning of this debate CCEA has said that the real driver for educational change should be an agreed vision for what is taught in our schools. We therefore welcome the recognition contained in the report of the importance of curriculum- led change and the development of an entitlement framework.
The Working Group recommendations dove-tail well with the work CCEA has already begun on curriculum and assessment changes in primary and post-primary schools which includes the development of a Pupil Profile.
CCEA realises that today’s announcement places considerable responsibility on the educational partners to work in collaboration and we look forward to playing our part in establishing the Entitlement Framework and the Pupil Profile.”
