CCEA Launches Recruitment Drive for Examiners
Each year Northern Ireland students complete more than half a million GCSE and A level examination papers. The marking grading of these papers is a huge task, carrying considerable responsibility and requiring considerable skill.
This week Northern Ireland's exams body, the Council for the Curriculum Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) is embarking on a recruitment drive to encourage more people in the educational community to become involved in the process of setting and marking exams.
CCEA Processing Manager
Martin Quinn explained:
In recent years we've introduced a range of
new qualifications and specifications. We've also been successful in attracting
more students to sit our existing examinations - in 2003 we experienced a rise
of 25% in GCSE entries alone. While this is positive news for the organisation,
it also means we must work harder than ever to ensure we maintain our pool of
suitably qualified examiners.
Examiners joining CCEA will become part of a team of highly professional subject specialists with a unique insight into the examining process. These insights can, in turn, be used to real benefit in the classroom in helping students study and prepare for exams. Full training and support is provided and there is of course the opportunity to earn extra money.
I want CCEA exams to be the best anywhere. Well trained and motivated examiners are an essential part of achieving this goal. If you feel you have the knowledge and experience required to fill this important role, please contact my staff at CCEA on (028) 9026 1243 or 9026 1294, or visit www.ccea.org.uk and visit the microsite "Examining with CCEA."
