 TRANSFER PROCEDURE: ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 The Department of Education

The Department is responsible for the overall policy governing the operation of the Transfer Procedure arrangements in which the transfer test results play an important part. It decides on the subjects to be tested, the content of the programmes of study on which the transfer test questions are based, the number of questions, the time allowed, the format of the papers and the dates of the tests.

The Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA)

CCEA is responsible for developing and setting the tests, arranging for their conduct in conjunction with the Education and Library Boards, marking the papers and determining the grades, and issuing test results to the Education and Library Boards.

Education and Library Boards (ELBs)

ELBs are responsible for issuing transfer booklets to schools, compiling and updating the lists of pupils sitting the tests (the nominal roll) and the appointment, selection and training of supervisors. The Boards issue results to parents, act as a clearing house for, and administer the processing of transfer report forms to enable secondary schools to consider applications. They are also responsible for the issue of letters notifying parents of the school to which their child has been admitted and the establishment and administration of admissions appeal tribunals.
