'True Colours' a stroke of inspiration

An inspirational display by some of Northern Ireland's brightest young artists and designers was unveiled at the 'true colours' exhibition in Omagh College.

Organised by the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) and sponsored by First Trust Bank, 'true colours' showcases the best and most intriguing work from CCEA's summer 2006 GCSE and GCE Art and Design examinations.

Neil Anderson, Director of Operations at CCEA, praised the work on show and emphasised the benefits for the many art students attending:

"'true colours' showcases the remarkable artwork being produced in Northern Ireland's schools and colleges. The standard of work is testament to the outstanding creative talent of our young people.

Congratulations to all the students whose work is exhibited and to their teachers who have encouraged them to make such good use of their artistic ability, I'm sure they are very proud to see their work displayed in such a public setting.

This exhibition attracts over 8000 visitors each year. Visiting students gain valuable insights and inspirations from the creativity and imagination of other young people. They can see at a glance what it takes to achieve top grades in CCEA's GCSE and GCE Art and Design. I hope that visiting 'true colours' will motivate them to have their own work hanging on these walls in years to come.

I am delighted that through their sponsorship, First Trust Bank is helping us to promote the 'true colours' exhibition."

Tommy Doran, Omagh Branch Manager, First Trust Bank said:

"The First Trust Bank is honoured to once again be associated with the 'true colours' art exhibition. The exhibition is a unique arts education initiative, which serves to both inspire and nurture the creative abilities of our young people - the artists and designers of tomorrow. It is a particular delight, to be able to visit this inspirational display right here in Omagh."

Speaking at the launch Victor Refaussé, Director Omagh College commented;

"Omagh College is delighted to be involved in an event that celebrates and publicises the excellent standard of artwork being produced by Northern Ireland students. It is through the hard work of the students, whose work is featured here today, and the insightful guidance and commitment of their teachers that the high standard of visual arts in Northern Ireland will continue to flourish."

The exhibition will also be displayed in CCEA, Clarendon Dock, Belfast from Monday 29th January 2007. The exhibitions are free of charge and open to the public. Schools and FE Colleges should book in advance by contacting CCEA Events Management on (028) 9026 1401.

CCEA is the only examinations board in the United Kingdom to provide art and design teachers and their students with a teaching and learning opportunity where they may see and experience at first-hand work by other students. Students who have visited our exhibition in previous years tell us that viewing the work provides invaluable insight into the development and realisation of ideas, and helps them prepare for their art and design courses.
