‘True Colours’ of young local artists unveiled by Terry Bradley
A display by some of Northern Ireland’s brightest young artists and designers will be unveiled today at the ‘true colours’ exhibition in CCEA, Clarendon Dock, Belfast by popular Irish artist Terry Bradley.
Organised by the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) and sponsored by First Trust Bank, ‘true colours’ showcases the best and most intriguing work from CCEA’s summer 2005 GCSE and GCE Art and Design examinations.
Dr Alan Lennon, CCEA Chairman commented;
“The ‘true colours’ exhibition, is a unique and exciting display showcasing the outstanding artwork being produced in Northern Ireland’s schools and colleges. The standard of work is testament to the outstanding creative talent of our young people. I would like to say congratulations to all the students whose work is exhibited and to their teachers who have encouraged them to make such good use of their artistic ability, I’m sure they are very proud to see their work displayed in such a public setting.
This exhibition has become one of the highlights of the education calendar, attracting over 8000 visitors each year. The visiting students gain valuable insights and inspirations from the creativity and imagination of other young people and recognise what it takes to achieve top grades in GCSE and GCE Art and Design. I hope that visiting ‘true colours’ will inspire and motivate them to return next year to view their own work hanging on these walls.”
Officially opening the exhibition, Terry Bradley said;
“I am delighted to be involved with the "true colours" exhibition. I think that the students’ work is of an incredibly high standard and it is a fantastic opportunity to have their work showcased like this and to give the public the chance to view the work of new and exciting talents.”
Terry McDaid, Managing Director of the First Trust Bank who sponsor ’true colours’, also commented:
“The First Trust Bank is delighted to once again be associated with the 'true colours' art exhibition. The exhibition is a unique arts education initiative, which serves to both inspire and nurture the creative abilities of our young people - the artists and designers of tomorrow”
Speaking at the launch Ms Phil Grant, CCEA Chief Examiner for GCE Art & Design commented;
“I am very proud to be speaking at an event that celebrates and publicises the exceptional artwork being produced by Northern Ireland students. This exhibition is the result of a lot of teamwork, from the students, teachers, senior moderators and the people at CCEA. I wish to sum this exhibition up in three words; inspiration, motivation and perspiration. Few teachers and students who see this work can fail to be inspired, more so the majority of students will be so motivated after seeing this display that they will be prepared to perspire to fulfil their potential.”
The ‘true colours’ exhibition is free of charge and open to the public from Monday 30 th January to Friday 17 th February. Schools and FE Colleges should book in advance by contacting CCEA Events Management on (028) 9026 1401.

CCEA is the only examinations board in the United Kingdom to provide art and design teachers and their students with a teaching and learning opportunity where they may see and experience at first-hand work by other students. Students who have visited our exhibition in previous years tell us that viewing the work provides invaluable insight into the development and realisation of ideas, and helps them prepare for their art and design courses.
