Baby Grand shows ‘true colours’

2010 is the most prestigious year yet for CCEA’s long-standing art and design exhibition ‘true colours’ as it makes its debut in the Baby Grand this week.

From Thursday 14 January to Saturday 16 January, a selection of the most unique and interesting artwork produced for CCEA’s Summer 2009 GCE AS/A2 and GCSE level examinations will be on display for public viewing.

The launch event took place yesterday evening and teachers, students and their friends and family where out in full force.

With almost ninety young artists and designers showcasing their stunning artwork from schools across the Province, this colourful display is a must-see for art lovers of all ages.

Congratulating the students on their innovative art and design pieces, Gavin Boyd, Chief Executive Designate of ESA, commented:

I visited my first ‘true colours’ back in 2000 when I was appointed Chief Executive of CCEA. Then, as now, I was taken aback at the variety, ingenuity and quality of the work on show. My congratulations to all of the students and teachers involved. I would also like pay tribute to CCEA for continuing to stage this unique and very professional exhibition and for bringing the event to an even wider audience via this public viewing.

Marion Miller, Art and Design, CCEA said:

Art and Design continues to be a popular subject in both GCSE and GCE throughout Northern Ireland and it is always exciting to see the work produced by pupils. This year we have everything from Gothic fashion to a 3D tree bark chair and a beautiful range of fine art and design work. The creative diversity on display is awe-inspiring.

Local artist and recent graduate of The Glasgow School of Art, Sarah Campbell, officially opened the exhibition, and commented:

“As a previous pupil of Dominican College, Belfast, and exhibitor of CCEA’s ‘true colours’, it is a pleasure to see at first hand the talented work of so many young people in Northern Ireland. The range of artwork on show is sure to inspire many budding artists and designers. I look forward to hearing about how many of these students progress in the field of art and design.
