Banbridge Academy scoops NI Award at BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2011
The winner of the University of Ulster Northern Ireland Award was presented to Banbridge Academy for their project “Luxury or Bog Standard? The Environmental Impact of Your Loo Roll Choices”. The announcement was made by Richard Millar, Dean of Computing & Engineering, at the awards ceremony held at the RDS in Dublin last week.
The project developed by students William Clackett; Neil Cunningham and Romy Gerring, was entered in the Biological and Ecological category, Intermediate section.
Graham Sutherland, CEO, BT Ireland said:
It is not exaggerating to say that, after 47 years, there was certainly something extra special about the 2011 exhibition. Throughout the week, the students have raised our spirits, and given us hope for the future with their confidence, ideas, and can-do attitude.
Congratulations to the team from Banbridge Academy and all to the winners - their work is inspirational and deserves to be showcased through a world-leading event like the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition. I look forward to watching their progress in the coming years.
This is the first year that the University of Ulster has sponsored the Northern Ireland Award and the partnership reflects the faculty of Computer and Engineering’s focus on engaging with schools and colleges to raise awareness of the diversity and attractiveness of a career in computing and engineering.
