Stretch & Challenge: UCAS Report
CCEA was interested in investigating the meaning of ‘stretch and challenge’ as defined by HEI staff at institutions who receive applications from Northern Ireland students; also, how they differentiated amongst high-attaining applicants. We were also interested in finding out the extent to which HEI staff considered Northern Ireland students to be prepared for third level study.
The report identifies two elements within the definition of ‘preparedness’ for HEI. The first focuses on the primary evidence of qualifications whilst the second addresses the skills which will enable students to succeed once they have gained a place in HE. Both of these aspects are addressed within this research project conducted by UCAS on behalf of CCEA.
