Monitoring of Vocational Qualifications

The regulatory authorities for qualifications in England (QCA), Wales (ACCAC) and Northern Ireland (CCEA) have published a report on the monitoring of vocational qualifications.

The report explains the methods used for monitoring awarding bodies' quality assurance arrangements and highlights the strengths and weaknesses in those arrangements for the vocational awards monitored.

Since the last annual report was published the regulatory authorities have put in place new criteria against which the performance of awarding bodies is monitored. These new criteria place a greater emphasis on the awarding bodies' quality assurance arrangements and create greater transparency in regulation. The report concludes that although awarding bodies succeeded in complying with the majority of the regulatory criteria they need to strengthen their systems for vocational qualifications to meet the regulatory authorities' requirements in full. Action plans are in place to ensure that the required improvements in awarding body performance are made.
