Principles governing use of exemptions
A set of principles designed to cover the use of exemptions and certificate indications for the Jan and June 2009 series of GCE, GCSE and Entry Level examinations have been agreed by the 3 regulators along with representatives from JCQ Awarding Bodies and disability groups. The principles are intended to support the process used by awarding bodies for exemptions in the January and summer 2009 examinations and will be used as a basis for further discussions with relevant interest groups about access arrangements.
Please note that these principles do not supersede the Joint Council Regulations (JCQ) nor is it expected that they will cover every circumstance or enquiry. They aim simply to bring clarity to the use of exemptions and certificate indications and ensure that candidates are no worse off under the current arrangements than under earlier arrangements.
