Learning for Life and Work

Some of you who attended the GCSE Learning for Life and Work support events expressed concerns about the revised specification. The main concern being the change from modular examinations to one linear examination of 1 ½ hrs.

Our response

There are now two GSCE Learning for Life and Work specifications from which to choose.

To satisfy the needs of teachers and learners better, we have developed an additional GCSE Leaning for Life and Work specification based on a modular assessment structure.

The new GCSE Learning for Life and Work Modular specification will be arriving in schools in June 2009 and is available on the Learning for Life and Work microsite NOW.

It contains the following changes:

  • three examinations of 45 mins each (each examination covering one component); and
  • examinations available each January and summer, starting from summer 2010.

In addition to feedback gathered at the support and launch events, we’ve also carried out further consultation to ensure that both specifications continue to meet the needs of all teachers of GCSE Learning for Life and Work.

Our full support package is currently available for the linear specification and is in development for the modular specification. For all your support needs, visit your subject microsite.
