History in the making

Did you know that the CCEA A Level History revised specification has a new optional unit on The American Presidency (1901-2000)? The new unit will explore the changing nature of the American presidency and analyse how major events and trends have helped shape the terms of presidents such as Wilson, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Nixon and others in the 20th century.

This specification, alongside our A Level Government and Politics revised specification, is for first teaching September 2016 with both qualifications developing strong transferable analytical and written skills and offering a wide range of education pathways and employment opportunities.

Some presidential facts:

  • There have been 45 U.S. presidents to date
  • George Washington was the first U.S. president in 1789-1797
  • A majority of 270 electoral college votes (538 total) is needed to win the election
