Statistics help us to understand the world around us. We use statistics to inform decisions, examine patterns and trends, predict outcomes and test theories. We live in an information age that generates huge amounts of data. Statistics help us to make sense of that data by collecting, analysing and presenting it.

Itís not just about numbers or data analysis; statistics are used in different ways in every area of work. This means that students taking a qualification in statistics can apply their knowledge and understanding to any area that interests them.

Studying statistics develops highly valued abilities such as independent and analytical thinking, logical reasoning, problem solving, computer literacy and organisational skills. A qualification in statistics gives students opportunities to progress to further study or the world of work.
